What puts a bath on this list

Inclusion rests on two conditions: the bath lies in Hungary, and the operator's own official material confirms natural thermal water. Nothing is ranked or inferred. All eight confirm indoor thermal pools, a sauna area and day tickets, so those features will not separate them. Three are the well-known Budapest bath houses — Széchenyi, Lukács and Rudas, the last with six Turkish-bath thermal pools beside the Danube — and one of them, Lukács, states that children under 14 cannot visit, which matters if you are travelling with a family.

Outdoor bathing, steam rooms and where to stay

Outdoor bathing is confirmed at six of the eight: Hungarospa Aqua-Palace in Hajdúszoboszló is a 15,000-square-metre indoor facility with 15 pools, and Rudas lists its Turkish-bath pools indoors. A steam room is confirmed at six as well — Bükfürdő and Zalakaros describe sauna worlds without a steam cabin. Only one, Sárvár Spa and Wellness Centre, has a hotel inside the bath building, where the same operator runs the VitalMed Hotel; the rest are day baths.

Budapest, the Hévíz lake and the western spa towns

Three of the eight are in Budapest, while Lake Hévíz is a spring-fed natural thermal lake in Zala County — a different kind of bathing altogether, operated by a medicinal spa hospital. The others gather west and east: Bükfürdő and Sárvár in Vas County, Zalakaros in Zala County, and Hungarospa Aqua-Palace as the eastern outlier in Hajdú-Bihar County.
